What is a nail?

Nail consists of keratin and mineral salts such as sulphur, selenium, calcium and potassium.

Nails are slightly curved keratin plates that protect the sensitive tips of fingers and toes. They are made of irregular keratin cells in three layers. The nail bed underneath is fused to the bone.

Besides a protective function, the fingernail also has a sensory function, which is equally important due to numerous nerve endings.

Fingernails are a type of “human business card“. Beautiful, well treated nails not only say that a person is well-groomed, they also reflect health and attractiveness in both women and men.
